  1. What is a charter school?  The South Carolina Charter Schools Act of 1996 defines a charter school as a public, nonreligious, non home-based, nonprofit corporation forming a school that operates by sponsorship of a public school district, the South Carolina Public Charter School District, or a public or independent institution of higher learning. Source: Click here
  2. Does it cost anything to enroll at The Palmetto School?  No, The Palmetto School is a free public charter school.
  3. Are you a program or school?  The Palmetto School is not a program, but is a public charter school.  We are required to teach students the same standards as any other school in South Carolina.  The Palmetto School also does the same state mandated and district mandated assessments.  We also use the same curriculum that other Rock Hill schools use.   
  4. Are you a behavioral school?  The Palmetto School is a charter school where everyone can learn.  We do not have a separate behavior program or classroom.
  5. How do I enroll at The Palmetto School?  You can fill out and email an application found on our website at www.thepalmettoschool.org or come into the school to get a paper copy.
  6. What makes The Palmetto School unique?  We are a small school with multi grade level classrooms and are sponsored by the Rock Hill School District.  Teachers use small groups to really understand where our students are and can provide a more one-on-one feeling.  We do not have large class sizes and try to only have 15-16 students in our K-8 classrooms.  Due to C.E.R.D.E.P. guidelines for PreK we have to have 20 students in that classroom. 
  7. How are you funded?  We receive federal funding, state funding, and receive donations form individuals and businesses.  Our PreK classroom is funded by C.E.R.D.E.P. and we are also a Title I school.  
  8. Can I volunteer at The Palmetto School?  YES!!  We are always looking for volunteers to help with reading, math, extra curricular areas, and more!!  Please visit the Volunteer page on our website at www.thepalmettoschool.org
  9. Do you serve students with IEPs or 504s?  Yes, we have a full time ESE teacher.
  10. Do you have transportation?  Unfortunately at this time The Palmetto School does not offer transportation.
